This Dog Played Opposite Cary Grant

Last night I watched a 1935 Cary Grant movie called “Wings in the Dark” with Myrna Loy.

In it he played a pilot accidentally blinded (a departure from his usual comedic roles). This bitter man wanted no help, and became a recluse far away from the life he knew.

Two of his friends brought him a seeing-eye dog. This sweet tempered and patient fellow (in his first appearance “Lightening” had to weather being yelled at by Cary Grant) brought Cary Grant’s character out of his funk and back into the stream of existence. He was so well trained he slipped himself into his own harness!

It reminded me that seeing-eye dogs have been making life easier for the blind for a very long time.
