Living Toys (Toy Dogs, That Is)

Lately the popularity of toy dogs and matching dog jewelry has been increasing. I’m sure it must have something to do with the cost of living, the time involved in exercising a big dog and how much food they eat.

I can see why you might want to own a small breed. They are cuddly, not too hard to bathe, and cleaning up after them isn’t quite so painful. A small baggie might even be sufficient.

But as with all dogs, it’s important to know where they come from. Get your toy dog from a reputable breeder, not a pet store where they might have come from a puppy mill. Surely by now most people are aware of that horror, but just in case you’ve been living in a cave for the past several years, puppy mills are not nice. The dogs are poorly cared for and the mothers are abused, if only through lack of affection and isolation.

Dogs live a long time, and you want to start out any sized dog with a healthy body and psyche.
