Dog Intelligence

It’s been said that the IQ of a dog exceeds that of a cat; mainly because they can learn things and repeat actions they’ve been trained to do. I know millions of cat lovers would disagree, but it is true that you can train a dog dependably to guard a house, herd the sheep or lead a blind person safely across a busy street. Can you imagine a “seeing eye tabby”? It is a humorous vision, though!

My feeling is both dogs and cats are important to humans, and the interaction with both goes a long way towards making our lives full. But having an animal that understands you and can protect you in times of danger is wonderful, no doubt about it.

Dogs are also great at figuring out the meaning of subtle signals, some of which you may not even realize you’re putting out. Everyone seems to know at least one good story of a dog saving someone’s life due to her acute awareness and incredible perception.
